Lake Trout

Lake Trout are another popular game fish in Lake Ontario.  Native to the lake they also are stocked.  The lake receives about 400,000 stocked Lake Trout per year making it the 4th largest stocking program on the lake.

Lake Trout tend to live longer than other types of trout which gives them a few more years of growth.  We catch Lake Trout in the 10-15 pound range with an occasional fish in the 20 pound range.   The Lake Ontario record Lake Trout is just over 40 pounds.

Lake Trout are commonly found in deeper waters but we will pick them up early in the season in shallow waters when fishing for Steelhead.

The Lake Trout are around all season long but get less pressure on them when the Salmon and Steelhead are in the lake.

Being a bigger fish they put up a good battle and it can be a chore hauling these beasts up out of the deep holes,  expecially if they are Trophy size.
